DYCD Sports & Wellness Program - Queens, NY 

The DYCD Youth Sports and Wellness Program provides tweens and teens with inclusive opportunities to build confidence, develop leadership skills, strengthen emotional well-being, and foster meaningful connections through sports and wellness-based experiences.

Teen Wellness Programs Supporting Healthy Youth Development

The DYCD Sports & Wellness Program in Astoria, Queens provides local youth with engaging opportunities to strengthen their physical, social, and emotional well-being through sports, movement, and wellness-based activities. Serving tweens (ages 8–12) and teens (ages 13–17), this Youth Sports and Wellness Program creates a supportive environment where participants build confidence, develop healthy habits, and strengthen positive relationships with their peers.

Social Emotional Learning for Youth Through Sports and Wellness

Through interactive workshops, participants engage in breathing exercises, mindfulness practices, cooperative games, team-building activities, and adaptive sports experiences that promote emotional regulation, communication, coordination, and leadership. The program emphasizes inclusion and accessibility, ensuring that youth of all skill levels feel welcomed and empowered to participate.
 

These activities support Social Emotional Learning for Youth by helping participants improve self-awareness, strengthen communication skills, and develop tools for positive decision-making.

Youth Leadership Development Program Building Confidence and Resilience

To date, 11 Sports & Wellness workshops have been conducted during May 2026, serving more than 90 youth participants. Throughout the program, youth have demonstrated increased focus, stronger teamwork and communication skills, improved self-awareness, and greater confidence in both individual and group activities.

Peer Leaders and facilitators play an important role in supporting youth engagement by modeling healthy behaviors, encouraging collaboration, and fostering an atmosphere of respect and inclusion. This Youth Leadership Development Program helps participants practice leadership, strengthen relationships, and build resilience in a positive and encouraging environment.

Real-World Life Skills for Youth 

Participants gain practical skills they can apply daily, including: 
 

  • Goal setting and accountability  
     

  • Stress management techniques  
     

  • Decision-making strategies  
     

  • Emotional regulation skills  

Interactive & Youth-Centered Approach 

This is not a lecture-based program. Sessions are designed to be:

Positive Youth Development Through Sports in Queens

Programming will continue through the end of June 2026, providing additional opportunities for Queens youth to engage in wellness-focused sports activities, develop leadership skills, and build meaningful connections within their community.
